There Are Plenty of Graphic Tees for Women. But Where Do the Designs Come From?
At Storyteller’s Closet, we often begin somewhere unexpected. Not with a T-shirt. Not even with a graphic. We begin with a character.
That’s how Gigi came to life. Before she appeared on one of our women’s graphic T-shirts, she had a personality, a look, and a world of her own. We imagined who she might be, how she would dress, and the kind of entrance she would make. The artwork came from there.
Meet Gigi: The Character Behind the Graphic Tee
Gigi is glamorous, theatrical, a little mysterious, and entirely comfortable being noticed. She was never particularly interested in blending in.
Her lavender skin, unmistakable red sole shoes, dramatic proportions, and slightly surreal surroundings became part of her identity. Each detail revealed more of who she was, and the illustration gradually took shape.
This is often how we create at Storyteller’s Closet. Rather than starting with something we think should go on a T-shirt, we begin with an idea worth developing. Sometimes it becomes a character. Sometimes a story. Sometimes an entire imaginary world.
How We Create Original Graphic Tees for Women
Gigi wasn’t created simply by drawing a fashionable woman and placing her on a shirt. We wanted to know where she belonged.
Her world needed to feel cinematic—stylish, unexpected, and just removed enough from reality to make you look twice. Scale could be exaggerated. Color could tell part of the story. Ordinary objects could become something entirely different.
By building the world first, the illustration had the chance to become a complete piece of original artwork before we thought about how it would live on clothing.
With so many women’s graphic T-shirts built around familiar logos, licensed images, and phrases we’ve all seen before, that distinction matters to us.
The artwork comes first. The T-shirt becomes the canvas.

Once Gigi existed, the next question was how she should be worn. As it turns out, there wasn’t just one answer.
